Stealing the Blinds

Being able to play poker effectively and profitably in the long term requires a number of different things. Dedication, good play, bankroll management, and maximizing your profits. Being able to maximize your profits might seem like a pretty simple idea to understand but the logistics of not leaving money on the table is not as easy as the idea behind it. There are many different things that you need to do in order to maximize the amount of money that you take away from the table but one of the easiest tricks that you can utilize to help add to your take away is stealing the blinds.

Stealing the blinds is, essentially, raising from a late position after having the table fold to you in hopes of having the players who are the blinds also fold and collect that money. Obviously, it is not a lot of money that you are collecting but the key to remember is that over a long session, stealing the blinds a number of times can add up. Because of its lack of difficulty, almost all poker players employ stealing tactic. Being able to use the skill effectively is more difficult than merely raising any time you are folded to in late position.

One problem that players on Ultimatebet.com run into when they are trying to steal the blinds is not committing enough chips to force the blinds to fold. The strength of the blinds’ hands are unknown so making a small move in hopes of taking the blinds can often result in getting called from one or both of the blinds. This can lead to a messy flop because the strength of their hands are masked and you are faced with the difficult decision or whether or not you want to make a continuation bet or give up on what was supposed to be a quick blind and a half.

Another difficulty people have with stealing the blinds is that they do it too often and with completely unplayable hands. Because so many people steal the blinds, everyone has a good idea of what is happening when you make a decent raise out of late position when the table has folded around to you. You can get away with it the first time, usually, as the blinds will respect the raise but if you continue to do it with regularity, it is very common to be reraised from one of the blinds and find yourself with a tough decision to make. That is why it is important to use the tool sparingly and not go overboard with stealing the blinds every time and use the times when your hand is absolutely trash to get some folds in so people do not think you are always trying to steal the blinds.

Overall, stealing the blinds is an effective way to add a number of big blinds per hour to your chip stack and help to increase your return over the long term. With its extreme ease of use and relatively high success rate, it is a skill you should never be without at the poker table.

Poker Tournament Guide

Whether you’re looking to learn how to play live poker tournaments at your local casino or an online poker tournament you’ll be able to in this guide. Both land based casinos and online casinos run poker tournaments in the same manner minus the rare exception. Many people that play poker machines don’t often consider entering poker tournaments, but there are several reasons why you should consider playing in online poker tournaments.

* One reason why poker rockets tournaments are a good alternative for a poker machine player is because they allow you to stretch your bankroll a lot further then usual. Poker machines can really eat up a small bankroll rather quickly, but if you enter into poker tournaments they can make your bankroll last much longer. Most poker tournaments offer small buy-ins ranging from $1-$25, but at the same time if you’re looking for larger poker tournaments they are available.

* Another reason why tournaments are so popular is because they allow you to play against other players rather then against the house. When you’re playing against the house it’s very difficult to come out on top, but when you’re playing against other players you’ll have a much better shot. Poker tournaments are still based on luck, but you can use some strategy while playing in them.

For those of you that are unaware how a poker tournament works we’re going to talk a look at how they run. Online poker tournaments run two different ways, but both of them are simple. To start a poker tournament you will need to pay your buy-in for the event. Once you pay the buy-in you’ll need to read the rules to find out what type of poker tournament it is. Some poker tournaments will be based on a set number of spins while some poker tournaments will be based on a set amount of time. It’s important to know whether you’ll have a set amount of time or a certain amount of spins so that you can strategize accordingly.

The goal in an online poker tournament is to beat the rest of the players in the tournament by having more credits at the end of the tournament then anyone else. If you end up finishing in one of the positions that receives a payout it will be automatically credited to your online casino account at the end of the tournament. Some online poker tournaments will also have special prize pools for players. You should make sure you keep an eye out for any poker tournaments with added prize pools or free entry.

When you’re playing in a poker tournament you first need to find out what type of tournament you’ll be playing in. If it’s a tournament where you’ll have a set amount of time then you’ll want to make sure you spin as quickly as possible so that you can get the most spins in. In a tournament with a set amount of spins given to each player you’ll need to use a different strategy. The best strategy when playing in a poker tournament with a set amount of spins is to bet the max in the beginning. You’ll either run out of credits or you’ll end up building up a nice amount of credits. If you build up a lot of credits and you’re in first place you should begin betting smaller amounts of each spin so that you can try protecting your lead.

Poker Rakeback Guide

Poker rakeback has been around for several years now, but most casual poker players still don’t know what exactly a rakeback deal is and how they can obtain a deal for themselves. Every online poker room takes a rake from every cash game hand and a fee from every tournament which is there profit, but know most poker rooms have been offering a percentage of the rake back to the players for choosing to play in that poker room. The sole reason why poker rooms offer rakeback is because they don’t want you to switch to a different poker room.

In order to find a rakeback deal you need to go through a third party provider or you need to find a deal with the poker room. Some poker rooms have started offering rakeback accounts to players, but for the most part you need to use a third party provider to find the best deals. Most of the big players in rakeback have lots of poker rooms where you can earn rakeback deals so you’ll have a wide selection of choices. One thing you need to remember though is that if you already have an account at a poker room you can’t have it switched to rakeback and you can’t make a new account as it’s against the rules.

Depending on which method you use to find your rakeback deal will determine factors such as how you get paid. If you find a deal with the poker room you want to play with then you’ll be able to get paid either weekly or monthly through the cashier system at the poker room. If you needed to go through a third party provider in order to find your rakeback deal then you’ll get paid from them and most will have several payment options to choose from.

A deal is mostly for poker players who play weekly because then they are losing a lot of money to rake. If you only play once a month or every couple months then you’re not really going to make much money back from your rake, but it’s still up to you as to whether or not you think it’s worth having a rakeback account or not. When you’re initially searching for your rakeback deal you should try to make sure that you spend some time shopping around. Generally the poker rooms will vary by a lot so you want to make sure you’re finding the best possible deal out there at the time. Some poker rooms are known to offer up to 75%+ rakeback for choosing to play in there poker room, but these are generally the smaller poker rooms who don’t have that big of a player base. If you don’t mind playing in these small poker rooms though then you will be able to find a great rakeback deal by searching through the smaller poker rooms at a third party provider.

You might not need a rakeback deal yet, but if you start playing more poker in the future then it’s always good to know that this option is out there for you. Rakeback has been helping many players make bad months seem decent and good month’s great months so keep it in mind.

Poker: Tell Tips

Tells are such a major part of PKR tournament play. They even let you stop playing the game to get a read on someone. Makes sense, we’re talking about anywhere from hundreds to millions of dollars. You’d probably want to take your time and make the most informed call before committing one way or another. So that brings me to my top here – tell tips. A few to keep in mind when reading or trying to prevent others from reading you.

If you think someone is watching your moves (you eyeballin’ me boy?), stay aware of it, but don’t try to counteract it by throwing breadcrumbs to lead him or her down another trail. Meaning, don’t guess what tell you think you’re giving away and then do the opposite of what you think they’re reading. As we can see from Daniel Craig in Casino Royale (yes, a very valid example), all that gets you is a swift thrust in your junk. Seriously, though, this is a juvenile and meaningless reaction, and one that can lead to the opposite of your desired result. Going out of your way to throw someone else off the scent will not only expose you, and open you up to further scrutinization now that others know you can be so easily affected, but while you’re playing your own wise guy game with someone else, you’re probably not paying full attention to the hand, and are either missing another opportunity or falling into a well-set trap.

It’s not the right movements that protect you, it’s the lack of movement. The stone faces are what conceal your tells. There’s a reason for those funny glasses, hats and more. It’s very “telling” that this year’s WSOP tournaments had a new rule that basically said they have to be able to see your face. You can cover your eyes, but you can’t wear a ski mask over your head, that was the gist of it. I like that rule, it forces players to implement some actual discipline into their emotional and physical response, which needs to be part of everyone’s game.

And, study relentlessly. Poker is not only a game about gut feelings and statistics. While those two play a large part, knowing your opponents as best you can is such a fantastic weapon to have in your arsenal. Most of us aren’t playing with folks on television to the point where you can watch tape of them (and if you’re taping guys in your buddy’s basement, you’ll probably end up kicked out of the game!), but you get my point. When you’re out of a hand, after you’ve folded, do nothing but watch the other players. Study how they bet, how they hold their chips, where they look, how they arrange their cards, how they breath, anything you can think of. It’ll pay off in the long run. After all, you can’t call someone on a tell if you haven’t learned it yet.

As the WSOP enters it’s final round, try this exercise. Don’t watch the players for tells. Watch how they watch the other players for their tells. It’ll be an eye-opening experience for you, I promise, and you’ll definitely learn a thing or two. And if they catch you watching, don’t worry about it. You’re not doing anything wrong. It’s all part of the game.
